| The Vacation of
a LifeTime began with a four hour layover in Cairo before proceeding by
plane to Luxor (Airplane trips are show in red) where we joined our boat,
the Beautiful Sun. It was a four-star waterborne hotel. For
the next seven days we cruised the Nile (shown in the pink/purple color)
in luxury from Luxor, to Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan and a few minor
stops. On the fourth day, we took a plane to Abu Simbel (See the
paragraph below). On the seventh day we returned to spend two days
in Cairo. (The circles show place we visited.)

Abu
Simbel. Following the
completion of the High Dam at Aswan, lake Nasser, 300 miles long and
ten miles wide, began to fill. Many historical buildings, some
as old as 7000 years, were soon to be covered by the lake.
Rames tomb is one of the several buildings that was moved above the
water level. A mountain was built to house it! It was
moved about 200 feet up and 70 feet back. Wait till you see
that page!! You will not believe the size! |
